Meat Defrosting Tips
It would be highly advisable to act in line with the recommendations on the preferred period of freezing and the instructions on defrosting. Frozen poultry should always be defrosted in a refrigerator or under running water in its original packaging or by using a microwave oven. The meat should never be defrosted on a kitchen counter at room temperature. The defrosting time will depend on the weight of the chicken. Meat should be fully defrosted before cooking. Defrosted meat should not be frozen again.
Refrigerator: The most suitable method is slow defrosting in a refrigerator (4°C). Raw chicken should be kept on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator, separate from other food.
Coldwater: The product in its original packaging should be immersed in cold water in the kitchen sink. Water should be changed every 30 minutes to keep it cold. It is not recommended to put meat in warm water as it increases the possibility of meat contamination. The kitchen sink should be thoroughly washed afterwards.
Microwave oven: Only a few pieces should be defrosted in a microwave oven at the same time. Please follow the microwave oven’s user manual. Meat defrosted in a microwave oven may be unevenly defrosted and should be therefore used immediately.
