Quality is very important to chicken meat users. We care what we eat. We are concerned about whether we can trust food producers that their heart is in the right place. It is very important that the relationship between a producer and a consumer is transparent.
Pivka perutninarstvo is a company with more than 60 years of tradition in Slovenia, where sustainable aspect is deeply embedded. In the production of chicken meat, Pivka has always been guided by the commitment of a caretaker, to do what is right. In 2021, the company turned to 100% antibiotic-free mindful farming, which means that Pivka chickens have not received any kind of antibiotics throughout their rearing period. 100% antibiotic-free mindful farming is Pivka’s contribution to preserving the health of the natural ecosystem and the society.
100% antibiotic-free mindful farming is Pivka’s contribution to managing the problem of the growing resistance of bacteria to antimicrobial medicinal products, such as antibiotics, which has been referred to by the World Health Organisation as the hidden pandemic of the 21st century. The organisation has been urging the world for many years to reduce the use of all types of medically important antibiotics in animals, which are reared for food production.
The challenge of the use of antibiotics in agriculture has also been addressed by the European Union in its Farm to Fork Strategy for a healthier and more sustainable food. Its goal is to reduce the sale of antimicrobial agents used for farmed animals in EU by 2030. The Association of Poultry Processors AVEC is also committed to reducing the use of antibiotics. Within the National strategy “One health” for Microbial Resistance Management, Slovenia has been pursuing the goal of reducing the general use of antimicrobial medicinal products in animals by 50% by 2024 (in comparison to 2009).
